The
Graduate Program has been designed to produce leaders who will have the skills
and abilities to lead effectively. With
this in mind it is important as graduate candidate’s move through their program
of study that a major focus be placed on the design and purpose of the graduate
program.
In the design of assignments and course capstone experiences, the graduate program like the majority of other leveled university programs focus heavily on the Language Arts; reading, writing, listening and speaking. Colwell (2012) in her discussion of graduate education finds typically programs goals and objectives for written and oral communications is the main focus in the production of competent if not excellent graduates (p.1). In connection, Oglala Lakota College's Graduate Program is to be designed to expand the candidate's intellectual capacities, through independence in reading and research, promoting critical thinking skills, as they design and implement change through strategic planning (Oglala Lakota College). "The purpose of the Graduate Program(s) of the Oglala Lakota College is to develop individual management and leadership skills that are harmonious with Lakota Values" (Oglala Lakota College).
In an attempt to assist graduate candidates as well as adjunct faculty in acquiring the Graduate Studies Purpose related to the Language Arts, I have created the OLC Graduate Studies Research and Writing Resource. This assistive site is provided to candidates to enhance their research and composition skills. Helpful videos and literature is provided as a quick reference to achieve success in APA format and style. The site is also helpful to faculty who need a quick refresher of APA. The Graduate Research and Writing Assistance will aid candidates with course writing assignments, theses , dissertations and or the graduate capstone assignment.
